This story might bring you to tears. Turia Pitt, an Australian athlete, had no idea her life would take a completely different turn while running a marathon.
The young woman suffered burns over 65% of her body in a fire. After nearly eight months in the hospital, she could count on the unwavering support of her partner.
This young athlete’s resilience is extraordinary. Her inner strength is such that she has become a true source of inspiration on social media. The life of Turia Pitt—a former engineer and fitness model—changed in 2011.

She nearly died in a fire during a 100-kilometer ultramarathon. Today, she bears the scars of that fire over nearly 65% of her body.
There was little indication that the young athlete would survive the fire. Doctors feared she would not wake from her coma after sustaining burns over nearly 65% of her body.

Her partner, Michael Hoskin, accompanied her on her long journey toward survival. He left his job as a police officer to care for her during this difficult time.
After two years of recovery, 200 surgeries, and six months in the hospital, Michael remained by her side. Turia remembers him as a loving and attentive partner.
“He was with me at the hospital from morning until night. He never broke his promise. Michael made me laugh; he comforted and supported me. I could rely on him,” she says.

Michael’s feelings deepened as Turia’s strength grew. “I realized how strong she was when I saw her survive this ordeal. It is incredibly hard to watch someone you love go through a situation like this.” “When Turia recovered, I was overjoyed to see her rediscover life’s joys,” she smiles. Today, Turia and Michael are the happy parents of a 22-month-old son.
Turia’s burn injuries do not stop her from living life to the fullest. On the contrary, they helped her develop an attitude of gratitude toward life.
