“Her face swelled so much that she couldn’t eat—until surgeons intervened.” Viktoriya’s rare condition changed everything, but a life-saving surgery gave her the chance to smile again 💉📸. See photos of her transformation in the article 👇.

Viktoriya Komar, a participant in the Ukrainian version of *I’m Ashamed of My Body*, has a story that moved the nation and deserves to be told.
Born in 1994 in Ukraine’s Rivne region, Viktoriya appeared healthy at birth. However, at age 7, she was diagnosed with scoliosis, a spinal deformity. Apart from that, she was like any other child.
Then, at age 13, her life changed drastically. The sudden loss of a loved one caused extreme emotional stress, triggering a hormonal imbalance. That was when her condition began to worsen.

Doctors eventually linked her symptoms to a rare genetic disorder similar to Albright syndrome—a condition affecting approximately 8 out of every million people, mostly women. It causes bone deformities, skin pigmentation, and hormonal irregularities. Viktoriya’s body began to change in painful and visible ways.
Her jaw grew so large that she could no longer eat solid foods. She developed a severe spinal curvature and a hump on her back. Unfortunately, Albright syndrome cannot be cured; it can only be managed through ongoing treatment.

Viktoriya lived with these changes for five years before seeking medical help. She underwent multiple surgeries, yet her condition continued to progress.

Her life changed again when she appeared on *I’m Ashamed of My Body*. Specialists reduced the size of her jaw, replaced her teeth, and initiated a carefully tailored hormone therapy. Doctors also prescribed a rare, expensive medication to help curb her excessive growth hormone production. Although the medication is expensive, kind-hearted people from across Ukraine, along with charitable organizations, have stepped in to help fund her treatment.

Despite everything, Viktoriya remains positive. She works as a preschool teacher, surrounded by children who love and respect her. Her strength, resilience, and kindness continue to inspire everyone who hears her story.

We wish Viktoriya continued good health, joy, and the support she deserves.
