Sisters born conjoined at the head and survived: Here’s what they look like 18 years later

These conjoined twins recently turned 18! 😲 They were born joined at the head, with a partially shared brain. 😱

Thanks to this, they can feel, hear, see, and even think for each other. 😲

If one is tickled, the other laughs too. If one drinks juice, the other tastes it. 🤔

When Tatiana and Krista Hogan were born in 2006 in Vancouver, Canada, doctors weren’t sure the girls would even survive a few days.

They were born with an extremely rare anomaly—joined at the head, with a partially fused brain. The medical term is craniopagus, and this occurs in fewer than 1 in every 2.5 million births.

But their case was even more unique: they shared a thalamus, a deep part of the brain responsible for sensory information.

Today, Tatiana and Krista are 18 years old.

They live in a small house in the city of Vernon, in the Canadian province of British Columbia, along with their mother, grandmother, and several brothers and sisters.

They are an ordinary, loving family, albeit under extraordinary circumstances.

The Hogan sisters are not simply twins. They are two people, but with an incredible neural connection.

Thanks to their shared thalamus, they can feel, hear, see, and even think for each other.

If one is tickled, the other laughs too. If one drinks juice, the other tastes it.

And most astonishingly, they are able to “read each other’s thoughts,” as if a single mind shared two bodies.

Scientists remain amazed by this phenomenon.

Studies of their brains have opened new horizons in understanding how human consciousness works

However, despite their incredible abilities, Tatiana and Krista have serious health problems:

Both have weak hearts—especially Tatiana, which poses a risk to their lives.

Krista has suffered from seizures and epilepsy, and the family must constantly monitor her condition.

The girls have difficulty moving around—they use a special wheelchair because coordinating movements between their two bodies requires effort.

In addition, they have developmental delays and study using a special program.

Despite these difficulties, the sisters are cheerful, talkative, and full of life.

They enjoy cartoons, video games, music, and socializing. They have different tastes, personalities, and preferences.

Tatiana is more impulsive, while Krista is calmer.

They love being together. At one point, the possibility of separating them was discussed, but doctors immediately ruled out that option: the surgery would be fatal for both of them.
