For the family, those days were filled with both fear and hope.
After learning about this rare condition during a routine ultrasound at 12 weeks of pregnancy, the parents faced a difficult choice: terminate the pregnancy or attempt a separation surgery.

On August 21, 2024, a team of more than two dozen specialists, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and nurses, performed an eight-hour operation.
The complex procedure involved separating the organs, reconstructing the abdominal wall with a mesh prosthesis, and performing plastic surgery.
After the operation, the babies went home to their parents, Timmo and Shaneka Ruffin, and their older siblings, Kylum and Anora.
“Seeing them in separate beds was indescribable,” Shaneka said.
“We are starting a new chapter as a family of six and are incredibly grateful to the hospital for this miracle.”
Today, Amari and Javar are growing up like any other children: they laugh, play, and develop, each with their own unique personality.
